However, ask yourself one question before signing an agreement:

  • Check if the Contractor is licensed to do business in the State of Minnesota by contacting Sec. of State (800-657-3602).
  • Ask for proof that the Contractor and people working for him are insured.
  • Ask for references!
  • Make sure that all oral promises are in the written contract.
  • Be sure that the name, address, license number, and phone number appear on all invoices.
  • Be suspicious if you’re asked to pay for the entire job up front. The down payment should be no more than one-half of the total contract price.
